Artist statement

Motivated to gain a greater understanding of conflict, I lived in the Middle East from 2005-2007. As a photographer, I documented conflict in Iraq, Israel, Palestine and Lebanon. There I experienced how conflict-reportage uses iconography and emotion to influence public and political opinion, whether intentional or not.

Commenting on conflict, I use visual media as a form of “evidence” and explore whether these materials can make a precise visual representation of an event that took place in our history. Aware of the limitations to show the context of reality in the past, I employ other media such as text, GPS, video and 3D-modelling, to increase the representation of this context.
