Dutch Doc Award 2011: Special Mention for Lost Track
‘Exceptional and intriguing book’ quote by the Jury

In this photobook Raoul Kramer (photographer, 1978) gives a contemporary view on the traces he found along the Birma-Thailand Railway. This 415 kilometre railway has been build, forced by the Japanese army during WOII, by Some 178,000 Asian forced labourers and 61,811 prisoners of war of whom more than 99,000 people died. In 2010, it is exactly 65 years ago that Japan surrendered and the hell, for the prisoners of war and Asian forced laborers, of the Burma-Thailand Railway came to an end. Reason for Raoul Kramer to step in the war time footsteps of his grandfather. To make the railway visible again, he photographed the found the traces in the landscape of Burma and Thailand.

— Quote from the jury report
